SendGrid Reviews 2026: Complaints, Pricing and Alternatives
What users say about Twilio SendGrid in 2026: Trustpilot complaints about suspensions, support and billing, the retired free plan, and current pricing as of October 2026.
Verdict. SendGrid has the scale and feature breadth of a long-established provider, but its recent public reviews are harsh. Of the 60 Trustpilot reviews we read (August 2025 to September 2026), 57 were one-star. Trustpilot skews toward unhappy customers, and a company this large has many satisfied users who never post, but the specific complaints are consistent enough to check before you commit.
We read the SendGrid Trustpilot page (611 reviews listed; we read 60 across three pages), Twilio's free plan retirement notice and Twilio's pricing page.
SendHQ is a competing email API and is mentioned where it differs. Quotes are copied verbatim from the linked pages and attributed by the display name and month shown there. Reviews are self-selected, we cannot verify individual claims, and a complaint is not a finding about the company.
What users praise about SendGrid
- Positive reviews are rare in the recent sample (3 of 60). A reviewer wrote in October 2025:
Great service, fairly priced.
Another, in November 2025, saidit is reliable, it works if you know how to use it.
- Our sample covers one year of Trustpilot reviews and does not include larger-team review sites, so it says little about the experience of enterprise customers.
SendGrid complaints: common themes
Suspension and lockout (at least 10 of 60 reviews)
A reviewer wrote in August 2026: Had a random email on Saturday saying account was suspended for nothing.
Another, in June 2026: Locked out of my account with no explanation and my app was unable to send verification emails.
A March 2026 reviewer wrote Cancelled our subscription without any explanation.
Some reviewers describe suspensions after account takeovers or phishing, which is a security event rather than arbitrary enforcement. Even so, the reviewers describe slow or hard-to-reach resolution.
Support response times (at least 8 of 60)
A September 2026 reviewer wrote: if you email them there is simply no response after 1 week
. In April 2026 another reported 9 days now without a response for a critical issue that is crippling our business.
Billing, compromised accounts and onboarding
One July 2026 reviewer said their account was taken over by an attacker and wrote that SendGrid billed us US$16,406.54 for the traffic the attacker generated
. We cannot verify the dispute, and the reviewer says SendGrid support acknowledged the takeover. It is a useful reminder to ask any provider how it treats spend caps and fraud.
A March 2026 reviewer complained that they count in all emails, including deleted ones.
In September 2026 a reviewer described onboarding: they put you in a manual onboarding process and they take ages to answer to you.
The free plan was retired
Twilio's changelog says the Free Email API plan was retired starting 27 May 2025, with sending paused for free accounts after a 60 day transition. Twilio's pricing page now lists a free trial of 100 emails per day for 60 days. A reviewer in August 2025 wrote that the change came Without any prior notice
; Twilio's notice is dated May 2025, so check what you were told.
SendGrid pricing (as of October 2026)
Twilio's Email API pricing page lists, as of October 2026: a Free Trial of 100 emails per day for 60 days; Essentials starting at $19.95 per month; Pro starting at $89.95 per month with a dedicated IP; and custom Premier pricing. Prices vary with monthly volume, so use the calculator on the page.
Is SendGrid good? Who it fits
- Good fit: larger teams that need an established vendor with marketing tools, subusers and SSO, and that can buy a higher tier with dedicated support.
- Look carefully first if: you are a small team that cannot afford a multi-day outage from an account action, or you want predictable low cost without a free tier.
SendGrid alternatives
- SendHQ. If you only need an API: $9 per month covers 50,000 emails and 25 domains, with a Resend-compatible API, templates, automatic suppression of bounces and complaints, and direct support from the founder. See pricing.
- Mailgun. Comparable feature set with a $35 Foundation plan and inbound routing.
- Postmark. Focused on transactional email, from $15 per month for 10,000 emails.
- Amazon SES. Lowest cost per email if you can run the surrounding tooling yourself.
